basics

There is not much to say here…

You need 4D V18 , access to an Exchange server (at least 2007 SP2) or compatible system that talks EWS and the 4d-plugin-curl-v2 plugin from Keisuke.

Apart from that some 4D knowledge, understanding of XML and the 4D Object data type might be useful, oh yes, dot notation might be extremely helpful.

EWS is quite well documented by Microsoft wich does not mean all is explained, especially the very complicated parts are often only explained for C# and .NET developers wich is at least a bit annoying, but in most cases Google and stackoverflow can be your friend.

In many places, wherever appropriate, if you want to learn more about the specific details of a command, item or property, I will link to the corresponding pages on MSDN, it will mostly be in the form of an easily overlooked button like tis one:

You will notice that Redmond has made 75% of things quite easy, creating and retrieving are a snap, but updating items is another matter! I would be hard pressed to devise a more complicated, complex, tedious and annoying way to implement it.
